Hebrews Chapter 7

The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.  Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.

Hebrews 7:18-19, 25-26

The law makes nothing perfect because humanity is unable to completely keep the law. The law of Moses introduces in the Old Testament highlights our need for a saviour! Because the law leaves us hopeless, he introduces a new hope, Jesus, who intercedes on our behalf that we might draw near to God. He saves COMPLETELY. There is nothing he is unable to redeem – no person is ‘too far’ from His grace. The perfection and purity of Christ has achieved for us that which no ‘earthly’ priest could obtain.

Sometimes we can get trapped in this idea that we are ‘good people’. This passage reminds me that I am utterly hopeless without Jesus. No matter how hard I try, I am in desperate need of a Saviour. We cannot lead a redeemed, set-free life if we don’t think we need redeeming. The good news? Jesus saves COMPLETELY.

Pray //

God, reveal to me my sin, that I may surrender my life and acknowledge my need for you. Thank you that you sent your son, in your perfect love, that I may be restored to you.
