Luke 2: 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
Luke 2: 51b ..but His mother (Mary) treasured all these things in her heart.
Mary kept all these things that had happened – and all that was said in regards to her child. She remembered what the angel had said to her, what had happened to Elizabeth, the shepherds, all the extraordinary circumstances around the birth of her son.
As Mother’s Day approaches I think of my own children and all that I have witnessed in their lives.
Daily I am still learning what it means for me to consciously tune into the ponderings in my heart as I have a choice about what I treasure and what thoughts I turn over and over in my mind.
Mary’s heart was fixed on God. Her ponderings were focused on God’s Word, and not on the many “what-if’s” that lurk in the shadows, taunting her to doubt, to fear, or to turn away from His promises.
Spending time in God’s Word, filling my mind and heart with His truth, and praising Him with my lips equips me to respond with an unwavering “yes” to God’s call on my life.
When I know that He is good and that I am called, I too can walk fearlessly into the future. The path of confidence begins with the treasures of my heart.
Heavenly Father, I desire to fill my mind with You, Your Word daily and Your calling on my life! Lord, as a mother, my heart aches for each of my own children and their families; that they too will love You, Lord, with all their heart, soul and mind and love others as You have loved them (Luke 10:27). Lord, in my own fear and doubt help me remove the ‘what ifs’ and focus on Your Word and promises. Amen.
