But Jesus said, “You feed them.” They answered “But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish or are you expecting us to go and buy enough food for this whole crowd?” For there were about 5,000 men there. Luke 9:13-14
What I see in this verse is this clear picture of how often we can feel like we don’t have enough. People can fall into a scarcity mindset, where they think I can’t do __________(fill in the blank) because I don’t have __________(fill in the blank). The disciples were saying in this verse, we can’t feed 5000 people because we don’t have enough food. How often in life do we give up on either challenges or opportunities (maybe first presented as challenges) because of this idea I can’t do it because I don’t have it. I feel Jesus shows us so often in scripture, we need to start with what we have, not what we don’t have. Do what we can do, not focus on what we can’t do. As we do what is possible and faithfully pray for Him to do what may seem impossible, that’s when we see breakthrough.
I want to live a life of adventurous faith! To live this out however, will often mean stepping into areas which are intimidating, where I may need to be vulnerable, where I may need to step out on a limb.
God thank you that you are a God of miracles. I pray for more faith in my life. To believe for things I may not be able to see with my own eyes. Help me to step out more, trust you more and believe for more. Lord, I pray specifically today for friends who are far from you. Please give me the faith and discernment to know when and how to begin talking to them about you. Amen.
