There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.
The judge and jury of our eternal fate is God. But now that we are in God’s love, we should have no fear for our fate. For us to be children on God, we need to simply completely accept the gift of grace given in love and respond. The way we love therefore should be a reflection of the way He first loved us. Unrestrained, unhindered, lavishly and with arms open wide.
There are people in our life that are hard to love. But that presumes the fact that we are easy to love. Loving me cost God something and yet he lavished his love on me whilst I was still a sinner. If we hate a brother or a sister, we have undermined the basis on which we too were saved. God’s love for that person is equal to His love for me. Are there people in my life that I am struggling to love? How can I change my heart to reflect Christ in His love for me?
God, forgive me for not loving like you first loved me. Soften my heart Lord to those who I find it hard to love sometimes. Thank you that by your love, I have eternity with you.
