“The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.”
1 Thessalonians 5:24 NIV
I love this verse. It is a powerful reminder that our God always keeps his promises. He is the great promise keeper despite the fact that we are the great promise breakers. Paul writes this not out of some vain hope, but out of the reality he has experienced. God has always been faithful, and if he said it…he will do it. He is bigger than my wildest problem, or my biggest obstacle so all I have to do is trust in him and he will make my paths straight.
Even in the darkest of days, this verse serves as a reminder of how we can focus on the character of God not the calamity of our circumstance. I even liked the encouraging reminder that preceded this verse
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is Godʼs will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV
This is Gods reminder of how we respond to his faithfulness. We respond with joy, prayer and thanksgiving. Spurgeon says ‘where joy and prayer meet, they give birth to gratitude.’
Jesus, thank you for your word. Today, of all days, as we stand on the precipice of change I am thankful for how your word is an encouragement and an anchor for my soul. God, you are holy and worthy to be praised. Even in times of uncertainty, teach me to cling to your faithfulness over and above my failures.
