1 Timothy 2:8-9
I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but with good works.
Paul spends this chapter reminding us that talking to God is so vital to our lives as His church. He says to pray for everyone, people in our close circles as well as those in governance and power, mediating and reconciling through telling God about the world. He encourages men to worship and pray rather than grumble or doubt; and women to not be distracted by perfecting outward appearance but to devote to praying and beautifully serving God practically.
I often need reminding to keep the main thing the main thing. To keep my relationship with my Heavenly Father central by talking to Him about everything, even though He already sees and knows. To give Him that space to work in my heart and mind about issues. And to do this as a corporate church for the same reasons.
Lord, help me to stay diligent and focussed on my True North, my relationship with a relational God. Help me Lord when I get too focussed on the outward appearance of my life, and forget to lift all things up to you in prayer. Thank you that you hear our prayers.
