See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.
2 Corinthians 7:11
Paul here speaks of the emotions that should provoke us to repentance. The idea that sin should alarm, grieve, concern us and stir up a desire in us to see restoration and purity restored!
Does sin still cause this stir in me? Do I have a Godly grief around wrong-doing in my heart and life? This is a pivotal sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life.
Jesus, what areas of my life need to be producing a Godly grief and repentance in me? Teach me to grieve sin as you do, but to also believe and rest in the finished and final work of Jesus on the cross. Amen
