Colossians 1 (ESV)
5 because of the hope laid up for you in heaven.
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
20 making peace by the blood of his cross.
23 not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard
28 Him we proclaim
This chapter has so much to take in! The two takeaways for me today is:
1. Jesus us the center of it all.
2. Don’t forget the hope we have in Christ.
3. Jesus came to make peace.
4. Jesus give us energy to spread the Good News.
This chapter reminds me of Romans 8, ‘For in this hope we were saved…’ Now that I am in Christ I get to join in with all creation and declare ‘Worthy is the lamb that was slain.’ What a comfort to know that everything was created for Him, not me. I’m not the center. If all things were created for Him, then that includes me. Therefore, I join in and keep me eyes firmly fixed on Him, the author and finisher of my faith.
Lord Jesus, you are so worthy of all of our praise. There is no one like you. I struggle to find the words to articulate what my heart is singing out as I read your word and see you more clearly. I surrender afresh to you Jesus. As my heart responds as I hear your truth, you burn in me a desire to share the good news with others. While I wait for your return, I won’t shift from this hope you’ve given me and I won’t stop sharing it with others.
