Ephesians 2:13 – “But now in Christ Jesus, you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”
In this passage, Paul is speaking to a primarily Gentile (non-Jew) audience. Originally, it was only the Israelites who were God’s people, but with Jesus death, the door was finally opened for Gentiles to be in relationship with God. As Gentiles ourselves, Paul is powerfully reminding us that we were once shunned, far off, and lost in our sins, but by the blood and grace of Christ, He has brought us wonderfully near. Hallelujah!
Who are those in our lives who seem to be far off from God? So far from walking in His ways, perhaps even lost in a particular sin, that it seems impossible that they could ever be close to God. Don’t give up! How can we be praying for them, sharing with them, and loving them, remembering that we too were once far off?
Lord, remind me daily of your grace. Thank you, Lord, that though I once was far off, distant and cut off, your Son’s precious blood has brought me near to you. Help me to show your love to those who seem far off, and to pray that they too would become near.
