Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?”
Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
None of this is a surprise to Jesus. He knows what is to transpire. He has entered the world as King, bringing a kingdom of truth. He has been talking about it, describing its nature, it’s ‘way’, and He has been modelling it to the world. It is a kingdom of truth, not force or flag or land. The truth that God is holy and that He is love, and that we have value and need rescuing.
I should not be surprised when my faith in Jesus is attacked, just as He was not surprised by the cross. He has made it clear that there will be trials as a part of knowing Him and His truth. And the preciousness of this truth, this salvation, He has made clear too. That it was worth His death that I would know it is confronting and humbling.
Lord, my salvation is no small thing. Thank you that your truth has captivated my heart. Help me to keep on seeking your face, to keep your truth at the front of my life. Until I ‘count all things as lost’..
