John 21:4 & 7
v4 Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.
v7 That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea.
It’s interesting how many times Jesus appeared after his resurrection without the disciples recognising him right away, and yet once they do, they run to him like a child runs to their father or mother. I recently watched some videos of soldiers returning home and when their children or family members see them for the first time they are overcome with joy and run right into their arms. I wonder if this is what is what like for the disciples to see Jesus alive and in-person again. Like Peter throwing himself into the sea to swim to shore as he couldn’t wait to be near to Christ again!
How I long to recognise the work of God in my daily life. To be aware of his presence and run to him daily. Not to be blinded by my own ambition or plans but to see him clearly and see him at work in my life and those around me. To daily spend time in his presence through prayer, devotions, worship, singing and joining in with others. For in this hope I have been saved, the redemption of my body and adoption as a child of God. I cannot wait to be with Christ both now and when he returns!!
Lord, help me to become more aware of your presence. Draw me to you so that I may live life in the overflow of knowing your love and your presence. For in you I find everything good and outside of you I find the opposite. Turn my eyes toward you that I may grow into your likeness and lead others in the same! Amen.
