Jesus said to them, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father in heaven, Your name is holy. May Your holy nation come. What You want done, may it be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us the bread we need everyday. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Do not let us be tempted.’” Luke 11:2-4

Jesus is giving his disciples an example of how to pray, which we also see in Matthew 6:19-30. It’s important to factor in this shouldn’t be something just to memorise and repeat each day, but something that needs to come from the heart.

The Bible teaches God wants our hearts to be engaged when we pray. “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words”Matthew 6:6-7.

The Lord’s Prayer can be a great way to pray and I use it often. There are other prayers I pray frequently as well, but this is a good reminder to not just let my prayers be words, but something that comes from the heart and is focused.

Our Father in heaven, Your name is holy. May Your holy nation come. What You want done, may it be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us the bread we need everyday. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Do not let us be tempted. Amen.
