Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
This is a beautiful verse! The approval that we have sought for so long through our work, through our friendships, throughout times of loneliness or loss. We now have found approval in Christ because of his free gift of grace. This means the restlessness can end. We now have peace with God! Tim Keller says, “To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us.”
What else matters when I have peace with God through Jesus? Everything else fades when I look to Christ. To have peace with God trumps any momentary and light afflictions I might face on this side of eternity. In this hope I was saved!
Lord Jesus, in all circumstances remind me of the joy of simply having peace with you. My chains are gone, my debt is paid. Amazing grace has won the day! Grow in me the fruits of your spirit: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Let this overflow in my life, in my family and to all whom I meet. From the fuel station attendant to the close family member, may you be at work, both in and through me.
